The Rockets came into this one with a 4-12 record and needing a win. First quarter injuries to John Lucas and then Moses Malone made the possibility of a wind a bleak prospect. By the end of the evening, however, Lucas and Malone would return and the Rockets would get a satisfying blowout victory. Robert Reid had a 16 point night, and Calvin Murphy led the way with 26. The Big E (Elvin Hayes) had 20 for the Bullets, but Washington never had the mojo despite coming in with a 9-6 record.
